Geochemical sampling gravity corer - on deck
Gravity corer is being recovered using special support frame
Gravity corer in support frame on deck RV Meteor
sediment samples for methane analysis are taken from the core catcher directly after recovery
3 ml of sample are filled into prepared 50 ml glass vial containing 20 ml of 1.2M NaCl / 0.3M HgCl2 solution. Vials are sealed immediately and methane analysis is performed on board using headspace GC
core liner is pulled out of gravity core steel housing tube and cut into 1m segments on deck. After the liner is cut the sediment is cut using a string.
Segments are sealed with yellow lids and labeled immediately after separation

core segments are brought into geolab and labeled (work and archive halves, core number, core depth upper and lower end of segment)

the empty part of the uppermost core segment is cut Festo oscillating saw
Core segments are transferred into cool lab for sampling
